It was Cena Time. The Miz and Alex Riley were out first. Miz cut a promo about Mother’s Day. He said he wanted to wish his mom a Happy Mother’s Day, but it’s not going to happen. Out came Cena and you would have thought a certain bleach-blonde figure-four user had shown up in FlairCountry.
WWE champion John Cena beat The Miz (w/Alex Riley) to retain the WWE Title. The crowd was entirely pro-Cena with the exception of my friend, I think. A great match, great chemistry. They went back-and-forth, then Riley got tossed from ringside. Lots of near falls to keep the kids excited. Very convincing match. Almost PPV caliber. Riley ran back to interrupt an Attitude Adjustment before tossing the briefcase into the ring. Miz swung it at Cena, missed, and hit A-Ri. The crowd exploded and it was Hulk Up time. You Can’t See Me. Attitude Adjustment, and the pin. Great match.
Afterward, Cena wished all the moms Happy Mother’s Day. All in all, a great house show. It was made better knowing my nice, who is a tremendous Cena fan, watched the match through eyes that I wish at times I could still watch the matches with. Something about the innocence we lose when we realize it’s not real. She and all the other kids were hanging on to every move and every near fall in the Cena match.
